Staff are trained to give tips and advice to first-timers with sizes for ages 3+. Spring Lake Park Reserve near Hastings is also home to classic-tracked cross-country ski trails. Naturalist staff offer periodic family programs and lessons designed for all ages.

Cross-country skiing is a great addition to a winter fitness routine. The Ramsey County Parks and Recreation department provides 25 miles of marked and groomed cross-country ski trails at five locations. Trails are​ open daily from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. The Battle Creek Winthrop trail is lighted daily from dusk to 9 p.m.
